who else called it a decade ago?

You know that feeling when you just want to scream, “I told you so!”? Yeah, I’ve had it for like a decade now. Back when people were still giving me the same puzzled looks they’d give someone claiming the Earth is flat, I was sitting there, gushing about fasting and keto—especially in the context of good ol’ ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome if you didn’t know, but who’s counting?).

Okay, picture this. It’s 2010; my friends are devouring doughnuts like they’re going out of style, and there I am, clutching my avocado toast (because avocados are amazing and non-negotiable). I’d ramble about metabolic states and ketosis, and they’d just nod along, probably thinking I was off my rocker. But hey, at least they were polite. Fast forward to now, and EVERYONE wants in on the fasting and keto action. It’s like watching the cool kids finally discover the secret club years after the invites went out. Except there’s no secret handshake—just bacon and butter in your coffee.

There was this one time I went on a bit of a rant about how fasting gives your body this so-called “reset”. Imagine explaining this at a time when people thought skipping breakfast was a mortal sin. I went on about fat-burning, decreased inflammation, you name it. Sure, they rolled eyes. A lot. But what’s funny is, those same eye-rollers are now the ones googling “keto flu” remedies and showing off their detox teas on Instagram. Yup, who’s laughing now?

And let’s not even get started on how this ties into ME/CFS. Chronic fatigue is a beast of a condition, and fad diets (yeah, sometimes they feel fad-ish) weren’t exactly the go-to recommendation back then. But here we are, with more and more studies suggesting low-carb, high-fat diets might just help in reducing some symptoms. Oh, sweet vindication! Part of me thinks maybe I should blow up my old blog posts and make them scroll on Times Square. Okay, maybe a bit dramatic, but you get the idea.

Anyway, here we are, living in a world where fasting and keto aren’t just buzzwords—they’re a lifestyle choice. Love it or hate it, they’re everywhere. For me? It’s a big “I called it!” moment. As they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Or in my case, once every decade or so. My eyes still hurt from all those eye-rolls. I could use a good nap. Ugh.
