why do we need continuous glucose monitors?
Why oh why does everyone seem obsessed with these continuous glucose monitors when they don’t even have diabetes? Can someone explain to me why a perfectly healthy person needs to strap a sensor to their arm like they’re trying out for Iron Man? It’s ridiculous. Everyone’s treating their bodies like an arcade game, trying to keep their blood sugar levels as flat as possible. Welcome to the dystopia where your body comes with a high score, great.
Beyond the obvious paranoia this sprouts, wearing a CGM just feels like another excuse for wellness junkies to brag about their immaculate blood sugar levels as if that’s the one true litmus test of health. Spoiler: it’s not. You know what else you probably shouldn’t do? Marry your diet plans to some weird app readings like it knows you better than you know yourself.
Here’s the funniest part, though – people are shelling out serious money for this stuff like those savings could’ve gone to a vacation or literally anything remotely enjoyable, instead of stressing over every morsel of food they eat. Maybe just chill out and enjoy a cookie once in a while without checking if your blood sugar is doing a cha-cha on the charts.
Imagine walking into someone’s kitchen and seeing more gadgets cluttering the counters than actual food. Trying to cook one less meal with a calculator would probably serve you better. And yet here we are, seeing these glucose sensors as the new norm. Bizarre doesn’t even begin to cover it.
So here’s where I’m at: I’ve decided to ignore this distraction. Because seriously, I am not about to gameify my nonsense doughnut craving. Wake me up when someone invents a gadget that helps me avoid insufferable health trends.
